Letter from the Chairman
The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is a project born out of the vision of my mother, Muriel McBrien Kauffman, who dreamed of having a performing arts center in Kansas City. As chairman of the board, I am pleased to be able to say that Muriel’s dream is becoming a reality.
More than ten years of collective research, planning, and design have brought into focus the mission of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. A technical team of architects, acousticians, and other theatre designers were selected and their teamwork is evident in the Kansas City skyline.
At the heart of the Kauffman Center will be a living tradition of extraordinary and diverse performing arts experiences. A setting maximized for the special and shared needs of local, national and international artists, the Kauffman Center will provide access to stages and other facilities for performances and many other activities. A strong program to engage children and youth will be integral to the Kauffman Center’s mission. This is a building for today and for generations to come.
This project represents a unique milestone in the history of our community. It is an opportunity to promote metropolitan Kansas City’s quality of life, through enrichment and great experiences. Everyone has an opportunity to become personally involved —through performances, activities, volunteering and donations.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
Julia Irene Kauffman
