Young people were at the center of the 1Year2Go Celebration in September 2010

Young people are the future of the arts — our future artists and our future audiences—and we care deeply about them. The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is dedicated to creating unprecedented access to arts experiences for young people in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

The Kauffman Center will play an important role in expanding the reach of programs created by resident companies and arts education outreach in the community. As a result, the Kauffman Center can ensure young people throughout the region know the excitement and inspiration of a live arts experience.

Opening Our Doors

The Kauffman Center Open Doors Program is one way we are providing access to high quality arts programs for youth throughout the metropolitan area. Through the Open Doors Transportation Fund and the Open Doors Ticket program, the Kauffman Center is already impacting the lives of our youth in its inaugural year of operation.

Students arrive at the Kauffman Center for a matinee performance

The Open Doors Transportation Fund provides bus transportation allowances to help defray the cost of bringing students to school matinee performances at the Kauffman Center. With an easy online application and fast approval, the Transportation Fund will help more than 25,000 students enjoy live arts performances at the Kauffman Center this season. Find out how the Open Doors Transportation Fund can help your school.

The Open Doors Ticket Fund will offer discounts to performances at the Kauffman Center. These performances will range from school matinees to seats at regularly scheduled performances. We are building a network of local agencies in our community to help share these opportunities with children and families who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend a performance at the Kauffman Center.
