Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts Fact Sheet

The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is a major new center for music, opera, theater, and dance. Designed by Moshe Safdie, the Kauffman Center will present a wide spectrum of entertainers and performers from around the world, and serve as the performance home of three of the region’s leading performing arts organizations—Kansas City Ballet, Kansas City Symphony and Lyric Opera of Kansas City.

Architect’s Statement

Designed by architect Moshe Safdie, the 285,000-square-foot Kauffman Center includes two stand-alone performance halls, both housed within a dramatic overarching shell featuring a glass roof and glass walls that provide sweeping views of Kansas City.

Kansas City Arts and Culture

Serving as a cultural catalyst for Kansas City’s downtown, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts will focus a new spotlight on the region’s performing arts community, further establishing Kansas City as a dynamic and diverse cultural destination.

Jane Chu, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

Jane Chu is the president and chief executive officer of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, a position she has held since November 2006. As president and CEO, Chu has played a crucial role in the creation of this new institution. She currently leads the strategy, programming, fundraising and community initiatives for the Kauffman Center.
