Corporate sponsors play a key role in the life of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
Performances
The Kauffman Center will host a wide range of diverse artists and performances from around the world, including classical, pop, and jazz music, ballet and contemporary dance, musicals, lectures and more.
The Center will serve as a the performance home of three of the region’s leading performing arts organizations – the Kansas City Ballet, Kansas City Symphony, and Lyric Opera of Kansas City.
Artists from the Kansas City area will give a host of performances including touring dance companies, Broadway musicals, traditional and folk works featuring local, national, and international artists.
In addition, programs under the umbrella of the Kauffman Center Presents will showcase artists and ensembles that represent the variety of outstanding performances in the 21st century:
- The American Legends Series showcases legendary artists who have mastered their genres and have been instrumental in defining American culture, such as Aretha Franklin, Lily Tomlin, and Mavis Staples.
- The Vanguard Series will recognize artists who have pushed the boundaries of their métier, thus redefining the art form. This series will include performance artist Laurie Anderson and Philip Glass.
- The Destinations Series reaches out to artists around the world. In 2011-2012, this series will bring the world renowned Irish folk ensemble, The Chieftains, to perform, as well as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and the hit ballroom dance extravaganza Burn the Floor.
- The National Geographic Speaker Series features dynamic National Geographic explorers, scientists, photographers, and filmmakers. The series will showcase photographers Annie Griffiths Belt and Mattias Klum, Kenny Broad, an ecological anthropologist known for taking science to the extreme, and anthropologist Mireya Mayor, often referred to as a female Indiana Jones.
