The Building

Take a Hard Hat Tour

After more than a year of steady construction, the Kauffman Center site is ready to receive visitors.  You won’t be taking a seat for a performance quite yet, but you can peek into the orchestra pit in the proscenium theater and see curved concert hall entrances taking shape.

Here’s how you can get in on the ground floor of Kansas City’s largest construction project. Get a sneak peek of the site through our Construction Photo Gallery.

Tour Details

Hard Hat Tours are available for groups and individuals through October 2008.  Kauffman Center staff and construction team members will provide a fascinating guided tour lasting about an hour and a half. Reservations are required.

Hard Hat TourMembers of your group must be comfortable standing and walking for an hour on uneven ground. They must be able to handle stairs and changes in elevation at the site itself. Because any construction site can be uneven and dirty (sometimes even muddy), lace-up, flat-soled shoes are a must. Due to restrictions in our insurance policies, children under 18 are not permitted on Hard Hat Tours.

Schedule

2008 tours are available through October and must be arranged in advance. Your private group of up to 15 people can schedule an hour-and-a-half tour. Individuals can call to join public tours on the second Wednesday and second Saturday of each month.

June, September & October: Wednesdays at 3 pm, second Saturday at 9 a.m.
Summer Schedule: July and August: Wednesdays at 9 am, second Saturday at 9 a.m.
