Where Stars Are Born

Do you dream of performing at the renowned Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts but don’t yet have a large enough following? We encourage you to apply to our Live in the Lobby series.

Artists are chosen to perform in the spacious and elegant Brandmeyer Great Hall before scheduled events. And, if you’re a young performer, the Spotlight on Youth initiative invites community groups and individuals to perform and show off their skills.

You’re On!

If you’re a young or less-than-young-but-emerging artist looking to break into the arts scene, Live in the Lobby is an amazing opportunity to showcase your talent. Gain valuable performance experience in the world-class setting of the Brandmeyer Great Hall, the perfect backdrop to entertain patrons before headlining events.

In addition to enjoying the beautiful space, Live in the Lobby artists receive an artist stipend and tickets to see the headlining performances. We can’t wait to see what you’ll share with our patrons!

Two musicians, engaged in artist development, perform indoors; one plays percussion while the other plays a wind instrument. An audience in casual attire is seen in the background, seated and standing near modern architectural elements.
A group of children, dressed in winter clothes, walk indoors in a line with large windows showcasing a snowy cityscape. They pass by a vibrant Children’s Handprint Wall, their colorful imprints standing out against the wintry backdrop.

Spotlight on Youth

Live in the Lobby is a beautiful reflection of the Kauffman Center’s Spotlight on Youth program. This program provides young people with tailored experiences, including internships, tours, backstage workshops and discussions, connecting them to the Kauffman Center and the Kansas City arts community.

Live in the Lobby is a testament to the Kauffman Center’s mission to empower and inspire Kansas City’s young and emerging artists as they embark on their creative journeys.

Live in the Lobby Application

Individual and ensemble performance groups are invited to apply to be part of Live in the Lobby. Preference will be given to groups that do not require amplification or can supply their own.

All applicants will receive confirmation that their application was received within two weeks, but groups will not be scheduled to perform until three to four weeks in advance. Performances must be appropriate for a family audience and performers are responsible for all setup and strike. A video performance link is required for all applications.
