Letter from the Chairman
The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts was a project born out of the vision of my mother, Muriel McBrien Kauffman, who dreamed of having a performing arts center in Kansas City. As chairman of the board, I am pleased to be able to say that Muriel’s dream is now a reality.
More than ten years of collective research, planning, and design brought into focus the mission of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. A technical team of architects, acousticians, and other theatre designers were selected and their teamwork is evident in the Kansas City skyline.
At the heart of the Kauffman Center is a living tradition to present extraordinary and diverse performing arts experiences. A setting maximized for the special and shared needs of local, national and international artists, the Kauffman Center provides access to stages and other facilities for performances and many other activities. Open Doors, a program that engages children and youth year round, is integral to the Kauffman Center’s mission. The Kauffman Center is a building for today and for generations to come.
This project represented a unique milestone in the history of our community. It was an opportunity to promote metropolitan Kansas City’s quality of life, through enrichment and great experiences. Everyone has an opportunity to become personally involved —through performances, activities, volunteering and donations.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
