Kauffman Center Announces Broadway Presenter

Offers Combined Broadway Series with Music Hall through

Cooperative Agreement between Theater League and Broadway Across America

KANSAS CITY, MO — The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts has announced a series of Broadway touring productions presented by Theater League will be included in the inaugural 2011-12 season. Through a cooperative agreement between Theater League and Broadway Across America, the Music Hall’s Broadway presenter, the Kauffman Center’s presentations will be combined with the Music Hall’s Broadway offerings, into a single five-show “Kansas City Broadway Series”. Series subscribers will be able to purchase tickets for all five productions presented at the two venues. With this collaborative effort, local audiences will experience an unprecedented offering of Broadway shows, dramatically expanding arts and entertainment experiences available in downtown Kansas City.

Through this special cross-programming effort between the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and the Music Hall, operated by the Kansas City Convention Center, the two Broadway presenters, Theater League and Broadway Across America, will utilize the strengths and features of each performance hall, giving audiences a broader and richer range of Broadway programming, unique to a metropolitan area the size of Kansas City. The Kauffman Center’s Muriel Kauffman Theatre which seats 1,800 is designed for more intimate productions that would not be possible in the Music Hall space. Conversely, the Music Hall’s greater seating capacity of 2,363 seats will continue to make it ideal for the larger touring productions.

Jane Chu, CEO of the Kauffman Center states: “We were delighted to announce Theater League as our Broadway presenter. They have a long and illustrious history of bringing great entertainment to downtown Kansas City. We are doubly delighted at the cooperation with the Music Hall and Broadway Across America. The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is proud to serve as a catalyst for this venture and look forward to other opportunities to enhance and expand performing arts experiences in the community. “

“With the opening of the new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts we have a great opportunity to do cross marketing to reach a wider audience which will be beneficial to both our facilities,” adds Oscar McGaskey, Executive Director of the Kansas City Convention and Entertainment Facilities.

Theater League’s President and Founder Mark Edelman states: “We’re excited to be back in Kansas City, our hometown. Working with our colleagues at Broadway Across America, we will continue our work enhancing the quality of life in this community with the thrill of live theater, bringing Kansas City audiences downtown to the brand new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.”

“We are proud of our four-year relationship with the Kansas City community, and we look forward to its growth,” states Lauren Reid, President, Broadway Across America. “This agreement enables us to provide an even greater versatility of offerings direct from Broadway.”
