Live in the Lobby

As part of the Open Doors Spotlight on Youth initiative, community groups and individual artists are invited to perform and display their talents in the Kauffman Center lobby prior to select performances throughout the year. Live in the Lobby furthers the Kauffman Center’s mission to connect Kansas City’s young and emerging artists to the Kauffman Center while they launch their futures in the arts.

Andres Ramirez and Amado Espinoza perform as Live in the Lobby artists.

Live in the Lobby performers receive:

  • Space in Brandmeyer Great Hall to perform for Kauffman Center patrons prior to a performance
  • Tickets to see the headlining performance (pending availability)
  • An artist stipend

To be considered for a Live in the Lobby slot, please submit an application below. Solo artists and small ensembles welcome!

Live in the Lobby Performance Application

Individual and ensemble performance groups are invited to apply. There are a wide range of performances that are well-suited for a performance in Brandmeyer Great Hall, but preference will be given to groups that do not require amplification or can supply their own amplification.

All applicants will receive confirmation that their application was received within two weeks, but groups will not be scheduled to perform until three to four weeks in advance.

Performances must be appropriate for a family-friendly audience, and performers are responsible for all setup and strike.

A video performance link is required for all applications.
  • Please include a detailed description of the performance you or your group would provide. This could include a music genre, a style of dance, or a specific art form to be displayed.
  • Include links to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages (if relevant).
  • Be sure to include a link to a video of a performance. Please attempt to share a performance sample that somewhat resembles the performance you would like to present during Live in the Lobby.
  • Groups and individual performance groups are expected to provide their own technical needs, but Kauffman Center staff can provide tables, chairs, access to power outlets, and music stands as needed. Please specify if there are spacing requirements for your performance.
